Repairing Storm Damage

Posted 02/06/2011

We’ve been working very hard to reconstruct our tunnels after the storm damage 10 days ago. It has stayed very windy since then, and last Sunday was also stormy, so we have concentrated so far on rebuilding the steel structures. However, the weather has now calmed down, and we have covered our first tunnels since the storm, as you can see in the photograph. Some of the hoops will not be as even as we would like, but they will keep the fruit covered, and most of the plants are still carrying an excellent crop.  Many thanks to all our staff who have worked hard to get us to this stage, and we look forward to completing the covering before we get too busy picking. We expect to start picking tomorrow (3rd June), and will really start to have large picks later next week, so will be working hard to complete the covering as soon as possible. This will still leave us with a lot of work to rebuild tunnels over the blueberries, but we have until September to do this.
